Louisiana Tops McNeese In Exhibition Opener, 2-1

Bedre, Waterhouse each score goals; Ragin' Cajuns to face NSU on Saturday
LAKE CHARLES – Hailly Waterhouse's penalty kick early in the 73rd minute snapped a 1-1 deadlock and carried the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team to a 2-1 victory over in-state opponent McNeese in the exhibition opener for both teams on Wednesday at Cowgirl Field.
Karleen Bedre's equalizer in the 28th minute helped Louisiana erase a 1-0 deficit as the Ragin' Cajuns outshot McNeese in the match, 23-9, including a 15-3 advantage in the second half.
Waterhouse's penalty kick past McNeese goalie AnnMarie Snead gave Louisiana the lead after Alyssa Abbott drew a foul inside the Cowgirl box.
McNeese took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute on Alexi Plitt's unassisted goal before the Louisiana defense settled down and limited the Cowgirls to three shots for the remainder of the half with starting goalkeeper Makenna Garcia collecting a save.
Natalie Mayes earned the win for Louisiana after spelling Garcia to start the second half and facing three shots in the final 45 minutes. Eight players had at least two shot attempts for the Ragin' Cajuns with Bedre and Megan Bradley leading the team with three apiece.
Cassandra Décombe placed a pair of shots on-goal for the Ragin' Cajuns with Waterhouse, Abbott, Lucy Ortiz, Mariella Stephens and Briana Henry taking two shots each.
Louisiana will wrap up its exhibition slate on Saturday when it travels to Natchitoches to face Northwestern State in a 5 p.m. contest. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available at RaginCajuns.com.
