Louisiana to make final exhibition appearance before Thursday's season-opener
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team wraps up its exhibition schedule on Saturday when it travels to Natchitoches to face Northwestern State at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Louisiana, which officially opens its 2023 season on Thursday at Middle Tennessee, opened its exhibition slate with a 2-1 win over McNeese on Wednesday in Lake Charles. Karleen Bedre and Hailly Waterhouse each scored for the Ragin' Cajuns while freshman goalkeeper Natalie Mayes pitched a shutout in the second half to earn the win.
The Ragin' Cajuns were able to get nine newcomers on the field against McNeese with all 22 players who saw action able to log 26 minutes or better. Five players – Waterhouse (78), Lauren Bennett (76), Lucy Ortiz (60), Alyssa Abbott (60) and Mariella Stephens (60) – were credited with 60-plus minutes on the pitch.
NSU, playing its lone exhibition match of the season, yields a team with 15 newcomers among its 26-player roster. The Demons, who posted their fourth consecutive top-2 finish in the Southland Conference last season, look to replace 38 of 44 goals scored from a year ago with Taylor Spitzer leading the returners with four.
