Jones Qualifies for NCAA Quarterfinals on Opening Night of East Regionals

He advances to Friday night’s quarterfinals for a spot at the national championships
JACKSONVILLE, FL. – With a Sun Belt Conference Championship in his pocket, Javed Jones is one event away from racing at the national championships in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Jones finished the third heat in third place (51.25) at the Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
Jones, who finished 16th overall, raced with teammate Nathan Fergusson in the night's final event for the Cajuns. Fergusson also narrowly missed advancing but placed 28th with a time of 52.00.
Earlier in the evening Loubert Dagrin started things in the 110-meter hurdles. The sophomore finished in 14.00 to place 34th overall. Trejun Jones also ran in the 100-meter dash where his 10.40 placed him 43rd.
The women go tomorrow with the javelin being the first event to feature Louisiana. Jones advances to Friday night's quarterfinals. From there the top three in the three heats plus the top three remaining times advance to Austin, Texas for the national championships.
