Cajuns Blank HCU To Improve To 2-0 In The Spring

LAFAYETTE – Sisley Stephens scored a goal and added an assist while Ruthny Mathurin scored her first goal of the spring in leading the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Houston Christian on Saturday at the Home Bank Track/Soccer Complex.

Newcomer Makeena Garcia notched her second shutout in goal as Louisiana won its second of five scheduled matches during the spring.

Stephens scored her first goal of the spring after taking a pass from older sister Mariella Stephens and scoring for a quick 1-0 lead. The Ragin' Cajuns added their final goal when Mathurin scored her first goal of the spring – off a pass from Sisley Stephens' third assist in two matches.

Louisiana, which opened the spring with a 5-0 win over LSU-Eunice on Feb. 24, plays its third friendly of the spring on March 10 when it entertains Northwestern State in a 5 p.m. contest. The Ragin' Cajuns will close out the home portion of their spring schedule on March 25 against LSU before traveling to face Mississippi State in the spring finale on April 1.

All home soccer matches are free and open to the public with limited concessions provided.
