Louisiana Scorches Field At Samford Bulldog Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jacqueline Pokuaah claimed three individual events and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns posted 17 first-place finishes in completing the Samford Bulldog Invitational on Friday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Ta'La Spates, Kayla McCray, Moseisha Bridgen and Alexandra Johnson set a school-record with a time of 3:47.26 as Louisiana made its final tuneup before returning to compete at the same venue for the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships from Feb. 20-21.
 
Pokuaah led a 1-2 finish for Louisiana in the women's 60-meter hurdles when she posted a time of 8.57 seconds and edging freshman teammate Courtney Wiltz (8.59). Pokuaah led a 1-2-3 finish for the Ragin' Cajuns in both the long jump (19-5 ¼) and triple jump (40-7 ¾) with Wiltz (18-10 ½) and Taylor Walls (18-9 ¾) following in the long jump and Taylor Davis (40-3 ½) and Ariel Young (38-5) in the triple jump.
 
McCray added first-place finishes for the Ragin' Cajuns in both the women's 60- (7.55) and 200-meter dashes (24.46) with Mari Robinson finishing second in the 60-meters (7.65) and third in the 200 (24.90).
 
Bridgen claimed first-place honors in the women's 400-meters (55.48) for Louisiana with Kennedy Washington taking top honors in the women's high jump (5-6) and Jordan Brown placing first in the women's pole vault (12-6).
 
Louisiana claimed five first-place finishes in men's track events with Trejun Jones posting the Sun Belt Conference's top time in the 60-meter dash (6.70). Kashie Crockett led a 1-2 finish in the 200-meters after clocking a time of 21.20 with Jones finishing second at 21.30.
 
Nathan Fergusson (48.39) and Javed Jones (48.48) finished 1-2 in the men's 400-meters for Louisiana with Peyton Chaisson posting a time of 4:14.10 to finish first in the mile run.
 
The Louisiana men's 4x400-meter relay team of Fergusson, Antoni Hoyte-Small, Crockett and Javed Jones posted a first-place time of 3:16.07 with Tyren Hannah claiming the men's weight throw (63-3 ¼), Rylan Theyard (6-7 ½) the high jump and Jeremy Nelson (50-2) the triple jump.
