Kobe Julien has now scored 20 or more points in four of his last six games
RUSTON, Louisiana – Despite a late run and another terrific game from Kobe Julien, the Louisiana men's basketball team fell to Louisiana Tech on Saturday in the Thomas Assembly Center, 72-67.
Julien finished as the team's leading scorer with 26 as well as a team-leading nine rebounds. Joe Charles added 10 points while holding Isaiah Crawford, the leading scorer for the Bulldogs, to just five points. Themus Fulks scored nine points along with six assists. Hosana Kitenge had a solid game on both ends of the floor with seven points, six rebounds, and four steals.
Charles got the Cajuns off on the right foot with a three-point play on the team's first possession. The home side answered back and took the lead but a Fulks layup and three by Julien put the Cajuns ahead 12-9. Foul trouble got the best of the Cajuns in the opening half, as the Bulldogs pulled ahead on the back of 23 free throw attempts, carrying a 42-23 lead into the locker room.
The Cajuns never blinked in the second half. After the deficit was pushed to 21, Kentrell Garnett made a 5-0 run. Kitenge followed a Bulldog make with one of his own before Julien connected on a pair of threes to make it a 10-point game with 14:10 to go.
Moments later, Kitenge's layup brought the Cajuns to within single digits at 50-42. After a three by Fulks pulled the Cajuns to within seven, the home team responded with a 7-0 run. Julien put an end to that with a long ball and kept the Cajuns within striking distance. The sides traded points and the Cajuns finally made another late spurt with a basket by Julien and a three by Michael Thomas, but it was too late in the end to finish off the comeback.
The Cajuns shot 17-of-28, .607 percent, in the second half and forced 21 turnovers. The team is back in action next Wednesday in the Cajundome as they host Eastern Kentucky at 7:30 p.m.
