Louisiana Soccer Hosts McNeese In Exhibition Match

LAFAYETTE – Fans of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team will get their first glimpse of the 2022 squad on Wednesday when it entertains I-10 rival McNeese in an exhibition match at the Home Bank Track/Soccer Facility.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the teams playing three, 30-minute periods. Admission to the match is free.

Louisiana, which will officially open the season on Aug. 18 at home against FIU, returns 15 letterwinners and eight starters for first-year coach Chris McBride.

The Ragin' Cajuns top three scorers – Karleen Bedre, Tatum Beck and Ruthny Mathurin – all return to the lineup that will also see the return of starters Alyssa Abbott, Anna Grassinger, Hailey Hoffmann, Lucy Ortiz and Hailly Waterhouse.

Libby Harper and Lauryn Starwood each return with starting experience at goalkeeper for Louisiana.

Fourteen newcomers – highlighted by grad transfer Perri Belzer (Grand Canyon) and Mariella Stephens (Little Rock) – will make their Louisiana debut during the 2022 season.

The match against McNeese, which finished 13-5-2 last season, is the fourth consecutive year the teams will compete in exhibition play. Louisiana will conclude its exhibition season on Saturday against Southern.
