Louisiana opened season with come-from-behind win over FIU
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team closes out the opening week of the 2022 season on Sunday when it plays host to Western Athletic Conference member Stephen F. Austin at the Home Bank Track/Soccer Facility.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Admission is free.

Louisiana (1-0-0) opened its season with a come-from-behind 2-1 win on Thursday over former Sun Belt Conference rival FIU. The Ragin' Cajuns got second-half goals from Ruthny Mathurin and Jacie Crochet to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit and give first-year head coach Chris McBride his first victory on the Louisiana sideline.

Mathurin, Tatum Beck and Sisley Stephens each added assists for Louisiana in the win with goalkeeper Libby Harper earning her second straight opening-night victory.

SFA (0-1-0), which finished 10-8-1 last season, opened its 2022 slate with a 5-0 loss at LSU on Thursday. The Lumberjacks, who have won all three matchups against Louisiana in the all-time series, were held to one shot in the contest. Lydia Sattler and Koral Hughes combined to stop seven shots for SFA.

RULE CHANGES FOR 2022
• Major changes to the overtime rules in men's and women's college soccer have been announced following a meeting by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel.

• Changes are set to go into effect during the 2022 season, and will be implemented for both the regular season and postseason.
Â
• For the regular season, overtime has been eliminated, meaning if a game is tied after the regulation 90 minutes, it will end in a tie. Previously, teams played two 10-minute overtime periods in a sudden-victory (golden goal) format, and if neither team scored, the game ended in a tie.
Â
• In conference tournaments and NCAA postseason games, the sudden-victory component has been eliminated, and teams will play two 10-minute overtime periods instead. Also, when a substitution is made by the winning team in the last five minutes of the second overtime, the game clock will stop.

• If the game remains tied, a penalty-kick shootout will be held to determine the winner.
