HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Kingsley Blessings' goal late in the 26th minute broke a scoreless tie and helped Southern Miss to a 1-0 win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer match on Thursday at the USM Soccer Complex.
Louisiana, which was looking to make its fourth straight appearance in the SBC Championships, ended its season at 3-9-5 overall and 2-6-2 in SBC play.
USM (2-9-4, 2-5-3 SBC) scored at the 25:58 mark when Blessings scored her second goal of the season off an assist by Esmeralda Figueroa. The lead would hold up as Alexa Helbling would collect three saves to earn the victory.
Alyssa Abbott, Perri Belzer and Anna Grassinger each put shots on goal for Louisiana with Ruthny Mathurin each taking shots for the Ragin' Cajuns.
Lauryn Starwood, making her first start of the season for the Ragin' Cajuns, replaced an injured Libby Harper and stopped five shots for Louisiana.
