Louisiana Soccer Match 1 Preview: vs. Prairie View

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team officially opens its 22nd season of intercollegiate soccer on Friday when it plays host to Prairie View A&M in a Red Out match at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with the match being streamed live on ESPN+ with Cody Junot (pxp) and Ian Auzenne (color) providing the commentary. Live stats will be available at CajunStats.com.

Louisiana, which finished 10-9-1 overall under head coach Lance Key, opens the season at home for the second consecutive year after a span of four straight season-opening matches (2016-19) on the road.

The Ragin' Cajuns return 15 letterwinners and seven starters from the 2020 squad that reached the 10-win mark for the second time in school history. Senior midfielder Lizzie Mayfield and Karleen Bedre are Louisiana's top returning scorers with Lauryn Starwood and Jordan Higgins the top returning goalkeepers.

Louisiana meets Prairie View (5-4-0 in 2020-21) for the fourth time all-time with the previous three meetings taking place in Lafayette. The Ragin' Cajuns claimed a 5-1 victory in the last meeting between the schools on Sept. 13, 2013 and are 16-0-1 overall all-time against schools from the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The match against the Panthers is part of two matches for Louisiana this weekend as the Ragin' Cajuns will travel to face Mississippi State on Sunday in a 1 p.m. contest.
