Louisiana Soccer Wraps Up Spring Campaign at Big 12 Baylor

Ragin' Cajuns look to cap off most successful two-year run with school-record 11th win
WACO, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team wraps up its 2021 spring schedule on Saturday when it faces Big 12 opponent Baylor at Betty Lou Mays Field.

Louisiana (10-8-1) returns to the state of Texas for the second straight week after dropping a 2-0 decision to No. 12-ranked Texas A&M. The Ragin' Cajuns, who look to secure their school-record 11th win of the season, have faced a tough slate during the spring with matches against SEC opponents Alabama, Mississippi State and Texas A&M along with a home match against in-state foe Nicholls.

Lizzie Mayfield (18 points) and Karleen Bedre (10 points) are Louisiana's top scorers entering the final match of the season with freshman goalkeeper Lauryn Starwood posting a 0.80 goals against average in nearly 1,250 minutes of play.

The Ragin' Cajuns have pitched a school-record 10 shutouts during the 2020-21 season with Starwood recording six while posting an 8-4-1 record.

Baylor (3-4-3) opened up the spring portion of the 2020-21 season with a 1-0 home loss to LSU on March 18. It marked the first game in 132 days for the Bears as they were originally slated to play three matches before taking on the Tigers, but a pair of cancellations and a postponement pushed the start date back for BU.

Baylor wrapped up the fall with a 3-3-3 record to finish fifth in the Big 12 standings. BU was one of the top teams in the country in shutout percentage as six of the Bears' nine matches involved a shutout.

• Gwen Mummert (First-Team) and Lizzie Mayfield (First-Team) represented Louisiana on the All-Sun Belt Conference team.
• The selection of Mayfield and Mummert marked the first time since 2013 Louisiana placed two members on the first-team when the duo of Grace Howell-Harries and Yazmin Montoya were honored.
• Mayfield, who played her first two seasons at Big 12 West Virginia, was the SBC's Newcomer of the Year.
