Louisiana to play six matches in spring campaign
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team officially kicks off the spring portion of its season on Friday with a pair of matches against Southeastern Conference competition.

Louisiana, which concluded the fall season at 9-5-1 overall, will open its six-match spring schedule on Friday at 5 p.m., against Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., before wrapping up the weekend on Sunday with an 11:30 a.m., match at Mississippi State.

Louisiana returns 21 letterwinners to the pitch, highlighted by All-Sun Belt Conference performers Lizzie Mayfield and Gwen Mummert. Mayfield, who was named the league's Newcomer of the Year in voting by the SBC head coaches, led Louisiana in goals scored (5), assists (5) and points (15) while earning first-team honors as a midfielder.

Mummert, a first-team defender for the second consecutive year, played a key role on a defense that shattered the school record for lowest goals against average (0.84) in school history while helping produce school-records for consecutive wins (6), shutouts (9), consecutive shutouts (6) and minutes without allowing a goal (724).

The leader of Louisiana's back line played in 1,373 of a possible 1,386 minutes on the pitch during the 2020 season and scored a pair of goals – both game-winners – with an assist.

Louisiana will host a pair of in-state rivals beginning on March 14 against McNeese in an exhibition match at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility before facing Nicholls on March 18.

The Ragin' Cajuns will close out the 2021 spring schedule as they head west for a pair of matches beginning on March 20 at SEC foe Texas A&M. After facing the Aggies in College Station, Louisiana will close out its spring schedule on March 27 when it faces Big 12 member Baylor in Waco.
