Louisiana part of 19-team field in 54-hole event

LAREDO, Texas – After having its 2021 Spring opener at the All-American Intercollegiate postponed due to last week's severe winter weather, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Golf team heads back to the Lone Star State as it officially tees off when it begins play on Monday at the annual Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club.

Louisiana will open play on Monday with 54 holes beginning with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start before playing the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Live results will be available at both GolfStat.com and RaginCajuns.com.

The Ragin' Cajuns, who will play for the first time Oct. 19-20, 2020 at the Little Rock Invitational, will be a part of a 19-team field that includes host Houston plus Abilene Christian, Baylor, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Houston Baptist, Illinois State, Kent State, Lamar, Little Rock, Michigan, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Texas, Texas A&M, ULM and UTSA.

Hunter Hammett, who posted a 71.33 scoring average in six rounds of play in the fall, leads Louisiana's five-man lineup in the event with the top four scores counting in the standings. The junior capped off the fall with his best overall performance at the collegiate level with a fourth-place finish with his low round (69) and 54-hole score (210) at the Little Rock Invitational.

Joining Hammett in the lineup will be returning letterwinners Peter Hinnant (72.67), Charlie Flynn (71.67), freshman Jake Marler (75.00) and Cole Kendrick (78.33).

Hinnant opened the 2020-21 season with a fifth-place finish at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate – his first career top-5 finish while recording three rounds in the 60's in nine rounds of play.

Flynn posted top-20 finishes in each of his events during the fall, highlighted by a career-best ninth-place performance in his season debut at UAB's Graeme McDowell Invitational. Marler and Kendrick each return to the lineup after competing in Louisiana's debut

Louisiana returns to the Border Olympics for the second consecutive year after posting an 11th-place finish in the 2020 event that included 17 teams and was held at Laredo's Max Mandel Golf Course.

The Ragin' Cajuns competed in three events during the fall portion of their schedule, capping off with a fifth-place finish at the Little Rock Invitational. Louisiana posted a team score of 289.22 in the nine rounds it played and concluded the fall ranked No. 36 nationally in the GolfStat rankings.
