LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Cross Country will close the 2021 regular season on Saturday when it travels to Bryan-College Station, Texas to participate in the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
Â
The men's 8k race is slated for 9 a.m. while the men's 6k race is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m.
Â
In addition to the host, the Ragin' Cajuns will be joined by 37 other women's programs and 35 opposing men's programs.
Â
The weekend competition will be held at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course, the course record for the 8k was set in 2021 by Eric Casarez of Texas A&M with a time of 23:04.0. Dominque Scott of Arkansas set the women's course record with a time of 19:23.6 in 2015.
Â
The race will mark the Ragin' Cajuns' first competition in nearly a month. Louisiana's last meet was the LSU Invitational on Sept. 17. The men earned a fourth-place result at the invite, while the women failed to place.
Â
Louisiana will send 10 members of the men's team to the weekend meet. The group will be paced by freshman Peyton Chiasson who claimed a team-best 23rd-place finish in Baton Rouge, La. and a 48th place result in the Rice Invitational on Sept. 17.
Â
On the women's side, Louisiana will submit six participants, headlined by freshman Abbey Marie Ratcliff who has led the Ragin' Cajuns across the finish line in 24th and 35th place at LSU and Rice, respectively.
Â
Sophomore Emoni Coleman will line up for her first race of the year on Saturday, the Atlanta native earned a team-best 47th place result in last year's Sun Belt Championships.
Â
The meet will serve as a final tune-up for Louisiana ahead of the Sun Belt Conference championships on Oct. 29 in Mobile, Ala.
