Louisiana Heads To Birmingham For Sun Belt Indoor Championships

Williams, Leleux look to defend 2019 titles; seven All-Conference performers return

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team wraps up the indoor portion of its 2020 schedule beginning on Monday when it competes at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
Action will begin on Monday at 9 a.m., with the first day of the men's heptathlon with the women's pentathlon beginning at 9:10. Field events will begin at noon with the women's shot put final before running events start at 4:35 p.m., with preliminaries in the women's mile run.
 
The final day on Tuesday will start at 9 a.m., with the final three events in the men's heptathlon with field events starting at noon and running events at 2 p.m.

Fans can watch both days of the 2020 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships on ESPN+ with Drew Fellios (Play-by-Play) and Matt Schumacher (Color) providing commentary. The broadcast will start at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with Tuesday's final day of coverage beginning at 2 p.m.

Defending Sun Belt Indoor champions Dominique Williams (men's weight throw) and Reagann Leleux (women's pole vault) lead a 44-member contingent that will look to help Louisiana claim its first indoor conference title since the Ragin' Cajuns men's team captured the 1996 crown.
 
Williams, who won last year's title in the men's weight throw with a mark of 65 feet, 6 inches, enters the meet for Louisiana with the league's top mark at 67-5 ½ and is ranked No. 37 nationally.  
 
Leleux, the 2019 Sun Belt Women's Freshman of the Year, claimed last year's title in the pole vault at 12-6 ¼ and holds the Ragin' Cajuns indoor school-record at 12-8 ¼.
 
Key Alfred (men's distance medley relay), Kemondrick Walter (men's distance medley relay), Jonathan Kimutai (men's distance medley relay), John Joseph (men's long jump) and Kimmie Rushford (women's pole vault) will look to claim All-Sun Belt Conference honors for the second straight year.
 
On the men's side, Terroll Jolla enters the meet ranked in the Sun Belt's top-10 in a pair of events (60 meters, 200 meters) with Nathan Fergusson ranked fourth in the men's 400 meters, indoor school-record holder Yves Cherubin ranked fourth in the 60-meter hurdles and Tahj Whitfield ranked eighth in the 60-meter hurdles.
 
Rylan Theyard, ranked No. 56 nationally in men's high jump, posted the Sun Belt's second-best mark in the high jump (6-11 ¾) and fourth-best mark in the triple jump (49-7 ¼) for Louisiana. Cole Courtois enters his first Sun Belt Conference indoor meet ranked fourth in the men's pole vault (16-1 ¼) with Shaquille Singuineau third in the men's shot out (54-1 ¼) and Chandler Mixon one of the favorites in the men's heptathlon.
 
Louisiana's Frankie Griffin enters the meet with the top mark in the women's high jump (5-8 ¾) and is ranked No. 46 nationally. Freshman Cammi Martinez enters her first Sun Belt meet ranked seventh in the women's pole vault (11-11 ¾) with Alexis James ranked seventh in the women's weight throw (54-7 ¼).
 
Freshman Emoni Coleman posted the Sun Belt's fifth-best time in the women's 800 meters (2:13.45) for Louisiana with freshman Kennedy London (60-meter hurdles) and Ta'La Spates (200-meters) looking to finish in the top eight.
