Singuineau, Mixon Lead Ragin' Cajuns After First Day Of SBC Indoor

Eight athletes advance to Tuesday's finals; Louisiana in fourth place on men's side
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior Shaquille Singuineau earned a second-place finish in the men's shot put and Chandler Mixon added a second-place performance in the men's pole vault to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field team after the opening day of the 2020 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships on Monday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Obdarius Ware recorded a fourth-place finish in the men's long jump for Louisiana while Reagann Leleux earned an eighth-place finish in the women's pentathlon. The Ragin' Cajuns wrapped up the first day of the two-day meet in fourth place in men's competition with 29.5 points with the women's team finishing in a tie for 10th.
The final day on Tuesday will start at 9 a.m., with the final three events in the men's heptathlon with field events starting at noon and running events at 2 p.m. The final day will be available on ESPN+, with coverage beginning at 2 p.m.

Singuineau recorded a throw of 53 feet, 9 ¼ inches on his first attempt in the shot put to finish second overall and become the first Ragin' Cajuns to earn All-Sun Belt Conference honors since Tristan Whitehall in 2016.
Mixon, who completed the first day of the men's heptathlon in second place with 2,920 points, cleared 16-9 ¼ in the men's pole vault to finish second overall in the event. Cole Courtois earned a fourth-place finish for Louisiana (15-9 ¼) with freshman Nick Russell finishing eighth (15-9 ¼).
Ware earned a fourth-place finish in the men's long jump for the second consecutive year after clearing 24-1 on his opening attempt. The Louisiana distance medley relay team of Solomon Brent, Zachary Sampson, Jonathan Kimutai and Rashid Reese earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 11:03.37.
Leleux totaled 3,242 points in the women's heptathlon to finish eighth for Louisiana while the women's distance medley relay team of Ally McCulley, Mari Robinson, Shonita Brome and Meredith Hebert clocked a time of 13 minutes, 24.96 seconds to finish eighth.
Louisiana had eight athletes advance to Tuesday's finals in their respective events after preliminaries.
Terroll Jolla qualified for the finals in both the men's 60-meter dash (6.88) and 200-meters (21.71) for Louisiana with Yves Cherubin (8.09) and Mixon (8.14) qualifying for the finals in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Brock Appiah moved on to the finals in the men's 200-meters after clocking a time of 21.66 while Nathan Fergusson clocked a time of 48.65 to advance to the men's 400-meter final.
Freshman Kennedy London qualified for the finals in the women's 60-meter hurdles (8.71) for the Ragin' Cajuns with Ta'La Spates posting the second-fastest time (55.87) in the women's 400-meters. Freshman Emoni Coleman advanced to Tuesday's final in the women's 800-meter run after posting a time of 2:15.90.
