Williams' First-Place Finish Leads Louisiana At Samford Invitational

Ragin' Cajuns with 16 top-5 finishes in final tuneup prior to Sun Belt Indoor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Dominique Williams continued his dominant indoor season with a first-place finish in the men's weight throw, and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field team notched 16 top-5 finishes to conclude action on Friday in the Samford Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
Williams, the No. 1-ranked student-athlete in the event and defending Sun Belt Conference champion, posted a mark of 65 feet, 10 inches to claim first-place honors for Louisiana, which was making its final tuneup before the SBC Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25 in Birmingham.
 
His performance highlighted six, top-5 performances in field events for Louisiana on the men's side. John Joseph earned a third-place finish in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 48-1 ¼ with teammate Rylan Theyard finishing fourth at 47-6 ½.
 
Theyard added a second, fourth-place finish for Louisiana in the high jump when he cleared a personal-best and Sun Belt Conference-best 6-10 ¾. In the pole vault, Chandler Mixon cleared a personal-best 15-11 to finish fourth for Louisiana with Shaquille Singuineau finishing fourth overall in the men's shot put (52-11).
 
Yves Cherubin (8.04) and Nathan Fergusson (48.36) earned second-place finishes for Louisiana in the men's 60-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash, respectively, while Terroll Jolla was third in the 200-meters (21.88) and fourth in the 60-meter dash (6.91). Key Alfred clocked a time of 1:55.24 to finish fourth for the Ragin' Cajuns with the men's 4x400-meter relay team finishing third (3:17.86).
 
Emoni Coleman posted the top finish on the women's side for Louisiana as the freshman clocked a personal-best time of 2:13.45 in the 800-meters to finish second. Freshman Johneisha George set a personal-best in the women's 60-meter dash (7.68) for the Ragin' Cajuns with the women's 4x400-meter relay team finishing second overall (3:49.46).
 
Frankie Griffin, ranked No. 1 in the Sun Belt in the women's high jump, cleared 5-5 to finish fourth overall for Louisiana with Kimmie Rushford (11-5 ¾) finishing seventh in the pole vault and Taylor Walls (18-0 ½) eighth in the long jump.
