Louisiana will face three in-state opponents and host five Sun Belt Conference matches during the season
LAFAYETTE – Highlighted by three in-state opponents, including the first meeting with Southern since 2013, and a trip north to both Chicago State and Northern Illinois, Louisiana Soccer first-year head coach Lance Key announced, on Friday, April 12, the 2019 schedule for the Ragin' Cajuns and how the first season under his reign will unfold.
Louisiana will begin the season with four matches on the road, with the season opener set for Thursday, August 22 against UTSA in Beaumont, Texas. Louisiana's home opener will be a matchup with Southern on Thursday, September 5, with that match being the lone non-conference match at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
Louisiana's non-conference slate is highlighted with the program's first-ever trip to Dekalb, Illinois, to face Northern Illinois and a trip to Chicago, Illinois to take on Chicago State. Louisiana's match with NIU, the second all-time meeting between the two programs, is set for Friday, August 30, while the first-ever meeting with Chicago State will take place on Sunday, September 1.
The Ragin' Cajuns will open Sun Belt Conference play at home when the South Alabama Jaguars visit Louisiana on Sunday, September 22. Including the match with South Alabama, Louisiana will play five home conference matches, and the season wraps up with a pair of home conference contests.
Georgia Southern and Troy will wrap up Louisiana's regular season, with the Eagles coming to town on Friday, October 25 and the Trojans visiting Louisiana on Sunday, October 27, in a match that will double as Senior Day.
The Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Championships, for the third straight season, will be held in Foley, Alabama with the first round set to begin on Nov. and the championship match scheduled for November 10.
