LAFAYETTE – In what was a hotly contested match, Louisiana Men's Tennis (19-6, 1-1 SBC) went toe-to-toe with the Georgia State Panthers (10-8, 2-0 SBC), falling in a heartbreaker, 4-3, in a Sunday morning battle at Cajun Courts.

Louisiana bounced back from dropping the doubles point, winning three matches in singles to push the match to the limit.  During the match, senior Arthur Libaud won his fourth straight match, while freshman Jan Galka continued his strong start to his collegiate career, winning his second straight match to improve his record to 9-6 in singles.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): Georgia State took the doubles point, but Louisiana did not give up the point without a fight.  At No. 2, the Panthers got the first point when Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds beat Louisiana's pairing of Galka and freshman Kacper Dworak, 6-4.

The Panthers clinched the doubles point with a win at No. 3, when the junior pairing of Elio Lago and Jamie Fraser lost to Bailey Showers and Quentin Coulaud, 6-4, to give Georgia State the point.  At No. 1, Louisiana's pairing of Libaud and junior Pearse Dolan put up a strong fight against Jack MacFarlane and Giles Hussey, but the Louisiana duo fell 7-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Louisiana got back into the match almost right away, taking matches at No. 2 and No. 4 singles to take the lead in the match.  At No. 2, Dolan dominated Giles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.  While at No. 4, Libaud battled his way through a tough match with Showers, coming away with a straight set, 6-3, 6-4, win that Libaud placed an exclamation mark on with an explosive cheer that set the crowd on fire.

Georgia State tied up the match at No. 5, when Couland beat Fraser in straight sets, 7-5 7-5, putting the score at 2-2.  But at No. 1, Louisiana took the lead back when Galka was able to fight off a late charging Grinvalds, winning in three sets, 6-1, 0-6, 6-4.

Galka's match was finished with a pretty return shot up the line, that Galka had to run down to smash and it set off the team and crowd with energy and it put Louisiana up 3-2.  At No. 6, Dworak dropped his match in a three-set battle, falling 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, to Duarte to tie the match at 3-3.

The match came down to No. 3, where Lago and Vazha Subladze found themselves in a battle.  But in the end, Subladze would come away with a straight set win, 6-4, 7-6 (3), giving Georgia State a 4-3 win.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana next hits the road, with a visit to the Carolina schools, starting with Appalachian State on Friday, March 29, before wrapping up the trip at Coastal Carolina on Sunday, Match 31.
