@RaginCajunsMT's Valiant Comeback Comes Up Short At Appalachian State

3/29/2019 3:45:00 PM | Men's Tennis

BOONE, N.C. – Three wins in singles put Louisiana Men's Tennis (19-7, 1-2 SBC) in position to complete a comeback against Appalachian State (5-14, 1-2 SBC), but the Ragin' Cajuns would fall short of completing the comeback, losing 4-3, at the Appalachian Tennis Courts.

Freshmen Jan Galka and Kacper Dworak, along with junior Pearse Dolan, gave Louisiana three big wins in singles, all in straight sets, to put Louisiana in position to almost come away with a big comeback win.  For Galka, it was his third straight win, all against Sun Belt Conference opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Doubles): Due to Louisiana forfeiting the No. 3 doubles match, Appalachian State locked up the doubles point at No. 1, when Dolan and senior Arthur Libaud fell to the App State duo of Milo Bargeron and Alex Pavkovich, 6-3.  The loss meant that Louisiana entered singles down 1-0, but it did not mean that Louisiana was down and out by any means.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Singles): Louisiana began to fight its way back, by taking the first two matches in singles.  The first domino fell at No. 5, when Dworak took down Afonso Viana in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, to tie up the match score at 1-1.

At No. 2, Dolan cruised past Pavkovich in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, to put Louisiana up 2-2.  App State got its first win in singles at No. 3, when junior Jamie Fraser fell in straight sets to Ben Webster, 6-4, 6-2, tying the score back up at 2-2.

Galka, snagging himself a big win at No. 1, put Louisiana back in front when he fought his way to a straight set, 7-5, 6-3, win over Milo Bargeron.  But App State would take the next two matches, to come away with the win.

Libaud fell in a three-set battle against Zion Heaven at No. 3, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4, to tie the score against at 3-3.  The deciding match came down to No. 6, where freshman Pierce Gilheany, despite putting up a fight in the second set tiebreaker, would fall in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(5) to Campbell Stone, giving Appalachian State a 4-3 win.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: Louisiana remains on the East Coast, with a Sunday, March 31, matchup at Coastal Carolina.  Start time for Sunday's match is set for 9 a.m. CT.
