First-Half Goal Lifts Texas State Past Louisiana, 1-0

Ragin' Cajuns travel to face in-state foe ULM on Sunday
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State's Mackenzie Smith followed up a missed shot in the 26th minute and scored her second goal of the season and the Bobcats kept the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team in check in a 1-0 Sun Belt Conference decision on Friday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
Heather Martin stopped seven shots as Texas State (7-5-2, 3-2-1 Sun Belt) won its third straight match and moved into a tie with Coastal Carolina for fourth-place in the Sun Belt standings. Louisiana (6-5-3, 2-2-2 Sun Belt) outshot the Bobcats, 14-12, with Una Einarsdottir and Julianne DeBlieux each taking a pair of shots on-goal.
Smith broke up a scoreless match for Texas State when she took a rebound off a shot by Kaylee Davis and scored past Louisiana goalkeeper Mackenzie Lee for the first goal allowed by the Ragin' Cajuns in the first half since Aug. 25 at Lamar. Davis attempted seven shots for the Bobcats, including three on goal.
Lee stopped five shots for Louisiana, which had its two-match win streak snapped. Karleen Bedre and Hailey Daigle each attempted a pair of shots for the Ragin' Cajuns with Alex Augustyn and Telly Vunipola each attempting a shot on-goal.
Louisiana will return to action on Sunday when it visits ULM (3-8-2, 0-5 Sun Belt) in a 1 p.m., contest at the ULM Soccer Complex. Live results and will be available at RaginCajuns.com.
