SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Louisiana baseball team saw its streak of five consecutive series wins come to an end on Sunday as the Ragin' Cajuns fell to Texas State 8-6 in the rubber game at Bobcat Ballpark.
 
Sophomore Jack Burk took the loss for Louisiana (29-23, 15-12 SBC) giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits with a walk and a strikeout in 2.2 innings of relief.
 
Reliever Zachary Leigh earned the victory for the Bobcats (25-25-1, 13-14 SBC) holding the Cajuns to two runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Senior Luke Sherley notched his first save of the year in the contest with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth inning.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns were outhit 17-8 in the contest. The 17 hits tie the most given up by the team this season.
 
LEADING THE CAJUNS
 
Junior Daniel Lahare extended his hit streak to 13 games with a single in the ninth inning to tie the longest streak of the year set by Hayden Cantrelle.
 
Hunter Kasuls became the first Louisiana player to drive in 40 runs on the season going 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Louisiana jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first on a bases loaded walk to Kasuls and RBI singles by Kennon Fontenot, Zach LaFleur and Jonathan Windham.
 
Texas State got on the board in the bottom half of the first on a bases loaded walk to Ryan Newman to make the score 4-1.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns got the run back in the top of the second inning on a sac fly to right field by Kasuls.
 
The Bobcats cut the lead to 5-4 after a solo home run by Dylan Paul and a two-run homer by Sherley in the bottom half of the second.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Jared Huber drove a two-out single to right field to tie the game at 5-all. Later in the inning, the Bobcats took a 6-5 edge when Jacob Almendarez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
 
Texas State picked up a run in the bottom of the fifth on an infield single by Derek Scheible to extend the lead to 7-5.
 
The Bobcats added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out RBI triple to centerfield by Dalton Shuffield.
 
In the top of the ninth, Todd Lott pulled the Ragin' Cajuns back within two runs on a leadoff, opposite-field solo home run to right field. Louisiana would go on to load the bases with one out before Sherley got Fontenot and LaFleur to go down on strikes to end the contest.
 
UP NEXT
 
Louisiana closes out the regular season with a four-game homestand starting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Tulane at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park. Following the matchup with the Green Wave, the Ragin' Cajuns host ULM in the final series of the year starting Thursday at 6 p.m.
