Ragin' Cajuns Head East For Azalea City Classic

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns cross country team gears up for its second meet of the 2017 season when it travels to Mobile, Ala., to compete in the Azalea City Classic on Friday at The Grounds of Mobile.

The women's 5K race will begin at 5:15 p.m., with the men's race to start at 5:45. Louisiana, ranked No. 11 in the USTFCCCA Men's South Central Region poll, will be joined in the meet by Sun Belt Conference rivals South Alabama and ULM along with Alabama State and Mobile.

Louisiana opened its season last week at the New Orleans Invitational, claiming first place in the men's 5K race and finishing second overall in the women's 5K. Stanley Limoh led a trio of runners for to top-5 finishes for the Ragin' Cajuns with senior Courtney Musgrove leading a trio of runners for the Ragin' Cajuns women's team to top-8 finishes.

"We are excited to head east and compete against a few conference teams and see if we can build on the momentum coming off of last week," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "We're going to run a little longer course in the men's side which I think helps us, but our focus is just getting better each week leading up to the (Sun Belt) conference meet in October."

Jonathan Kimutai, in his debut for the Ragin' Cajuns, finished third overall (15:30.76) with Beau Robinson finishing fourth (15:32.45). Dylan Heck (16:25.24) and Logan LaGarde (16:28.93) each posted top-15 finishes for Louisiana with freshmen George Fenner (16:45.92), Andre Bellard (16:48.32) and Conner Meche (16:57.16) finishing in the top-20.

Musgrove crossed the finish line in the women's 5K race in 18:58.91 to finish third overall with senior Lindsay LaGarde (19:02.66) finishing fifth and Claire Hodges (19:21.17) eighth. Courtney Broussard (19:40.10), Alexa Breaux (19:52.89) and Hailey Hesterman (20:24.11) each recorded top-20 finishes for the Ragin' Cajuns.
