Cajuns Add Two More Recruits For 2002

Tuesday, April 17, 2002

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer head coach Dave Poggi announced Tuesday the signing of two more players for the upcoming 2002 season.

Lafayette native Ainsley Breaux and Parker, Colo., native Kristine Burkett are the newest additions to the program, which will begin its third season this fall.

Breaux, who played high school ball for St. Thomas More, joins teammate Tiffany Garber on the 2002 Cajun squad.

She played midfield for STM and was a member of two state championship teams in 1999 and 2000. The Cougars sported a 79-14-4 record during her four years there.

"Ainsley is a wide midfield player who has a tremendous work ethic," Poggi said. "She impressed me during the state high school playoffs and we are excited to add her to this year's recruiting class."

Burkett, a defender and central midfielder in high school, brings a wealth of soccer experience to the Cajuns. She played four years of club soccer at Real Soccer Club and two years at Littleton Soccer Club in addition to her high school experience.

Burkett was named team captain in both her junior and senior years at Ponderoja High School.

"Kristine is an experienced attacker who has played her club soccer for two of the top select soccer teams in Colorado," Poggi said. "She should add depth to a strong group of attacking players already signed for this next year."

The two join Garber (the only other Louisiana recruit), Stacy Smith, Stephanie Durand, Meredith Smith, Rachel Rozelle and Amy Cook in the Cajuns' recruiting class for the upcoming season.
