Women's Tennis Set To Host Ragin' Cajuns Invitational

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team will return to action for its second tournament of the fall when it plays host to the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational that begins on Friday at the Culotta Tennis Center.

The two-day event begins Friday at 8:30 a.m. with doubles play, followed by singles play at 9:15 a.m. The tournament will conclude on Saturday with action beginning at 9 a.m. Admission to the tournament is free.

Louisiana, which opened its 2016-17 season two weeks ago at the ULM Warhawk Classic, is joined in the nine-team event by Sun Belt Conference rival ULM, Conference USA member Louisiana Tech, Southland Conference schools Incarnate Word, Lamar, McNeese State, New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana, and NAIA member LSU Alexandria.

"We're excited to bring the tournament back," head coach Stephanie Vallejos said. "For us to host here, it definitely brings some excitement for our team to compete out here.

"Something that I'm really looking forward to is watching our incoming players come in and compete at home. That will be a new experience for them. It will be great for them in preparation for the spring season."

Alexandra Way, Elena Sava, Kelly Drew and Abby Johnson are the top returning players for the Ragin' Cajuns with sophomore Carla Ortega coming off a solid performance at the ULM Warhawk Classic, and freshmen Lucile Delabarre, Marina Rodriguez Garcia and India Shiaelis set to compete in their second collegiate meet.

After completing the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational, Louisiana is scheduled to compete in the ITA Southern Regionals in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
