LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team had several players advance to the final day of competition in the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational at the Culotta Tennis Center.
Louisiana's Marina Rodriguez Garcia defeated Louisiana Tech's Marta Sramkova 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-3. Rodriguez Garcia then knocked off Lamar's Anna Spengler 6-3, 7-6(3) to advance to Saturday's final where she will face ULM's Ioana Popescu.
Lucile Delabarre (Louisiana) defeated Brittany Johnson (New Orleans) 7-6(5), 6-4. Delabarre then knocked off ULM's Luana Stanciu 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to Saturday's final where she will face ULM's Patricia Vilar.
Louisiana's India Shiaelis defeated Southeastern Louisiana's Sarah Eutinger 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. Shiaelis then knocked off Louisiana Tech's Haley Ballinger 7-6(8), 6-2 to advance to Saturday's final where she will face Lamar's Stephanie Marchena.
Louisiana's Carla Ortega defeated Incarnate Word's Ale Landaluce 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(4). Ortega then dropped a 6-4, 3-6, 1-6 decision to Louisiana Tech's Alba Perny.
Elena Sava (Louisiana) dropped a 4-6, 3-6 decision to Katya Lapayeva (Lamar) while Alexandra Way (Louisiana) fell 3-6, 3-6 to Anna Segarra (New Orleans).
In doubles action, Way and Sava defeated Lamar's Anna Spengler and Hanna Elfving 6-1. Way and Sava will face ULM's Tiffany Mylonas and Luana Stanciu in Saturday's semifinals.
Louisiana's Abby Johnson and Rodriguez Garcia defeated Yasmin Rashad and Claudette Gilhespie (New Orleans) 6-3, 6-3. Johnson and Rodriguez Garcia will face Southeastern Louisiana's Ceci Mercier and Madina Vorotnikova in Saturday's semifinals.
Delabarre and Shiaelis dropped a 2-6 decision to Trang Dao and Brittany Johnson (New Orleans).
The tournament will conclude on Saturday with action beginning at 9 a.m. Admission to the tournament is free.
