BATON ROUGE, La. - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team used a final round 288 (E) to claim fifth place with an overall score of 36-over par (900) at the David Toms Intercollegiate on Sunday at the par-72, 7,001-yard University Club.

The top 5 finish is the fourth straight of the season for the Cajuns, who saw both Haraldur Magnus and Fernando Cruz Valle place in the top 10.

"Once again we see both Haddi (Haraldur) and Fernando stepping up as leaders," head coach Theo Sliman said. "Very proud of way the guys bounced back to finish strong in the final round once again. The guys have showed a lot of mental toughness to overcome what was a tough course and sluggish start.

"I have a lot of confidence in this group to put three rounds together and show people what we are capable of. It's going to take a collective group effort from top to bottom."

Magnus, the reigning Sun Belt Golfer of the Month, notched his fourth straight top 10 finish carding an overall score of 1-over (217) to end the tournament in a tie for fifth. The senior bounced back from an opening round 75 (+3) to post two rounds of par or better including a final round 70 (-2) to climb into the top 10.

"It's great to be able to start off my senior year this way," Magnus said. "I would have liked to play a little bit better to get into contention, but after the first round I am happy to come away with this result."

Cruz Valle also tallied a final round 70 (-2) to climb 12 spots and finish in a tie for eighth at 5-over (221). The top 10 performance is the sixth of Cruz Valle's career and his second this fall.

Host LSU was the wire-to-wire champion with a 54-hole score of even-par (864), while the Tiger's Eric Ricard took individual medalist honors with a three-round score of 10-under (206). Kansas State (+16, 880), Liberty (+22, 886), Iowa (+26, 890) and Louisiana (+36, 900) round out the top 5 teams.

Sophomore Andres Navarrete carded an overall score of 14-over (230) for the Ragin' Cajuns to place in a tie for 35th. Junior Ragnar Gardarsson shot a 72 (E) in the final round to finish in a tie for 50th at 18-over (234), and Triston Elston rounded out the scoring in a tie for 56th at 21-over (237).

The Cajuns close out the fall slate on Oct. 26-27 as the squad heads to The Intercollegiate at The Grove in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
