LAFAYETTE, La. – Riding the school's first ever No. 1 ranking for any sport and a 12-game win streak, the Ragin' Cajuns baseball team will open a five-game week with a pair of midweek contests against in-state foes at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field starting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Northwestern State. Louisiana hosts Southern University on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Tigue.

The 12-game win streak is the longest active streak in the nation. The Cajuns are off to a 22-2 start, which ties the record for the best 24-game start with the 2000 squad.

The Ragin' Cajuns went 5-0 last week including a sweep of conference foe Georgia State at home to open a nine-game homestand.

Senior Seth Harrison was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after posting at least one hit and run in each of the five games. On the week, Harrison hit .429 with nine hits including a double, triple and three home runs to go with five RBI and scored eight times.

Louisiana ranks in the top 50 nationally in 22 categories as a team coming into the week. The Ragin' Cajuns are in the top 10 in five categories including ranking first in winning percentage (.917), third in home runs (28), fourth in slugging percentage (.499), fifth in sac flies (19), seventh in shutouts (5), ninth in hit by pitch (44) and tenth in triples (11).

The Cajuns hold an 80-48 edge in the series against the Demons after winning 5-3 in Natchitoches, La. back on Feb. 19 this year, while Louisiana has a 48-23-1 advantage in the series with the Jaguars.

Northwestern State (12-10, 4-2 Southland) comes into the contest having won five of its last six games including series wins over Oral Roberts and Stephen F. Austin.

The Demons' Chase Daughdrill leads the squad with a .333 batting average and 19 RBI. He has reached base in every game this season.

Southern (4-12, 1-6 SWAC) was swept over the weekend by Grambling State after defeating McNeese State 4-3 in a midweek game at home.

The Jaguars are led by Lance Jones and D.J. Wallace offensively. Jones is hitting a team-best .375 with five doubles, a triple and nine RBI, while Wallace leads the club with 14 RBI hitting .338 through 16 games.

Following the Southern contest, the Ragin' Cajuns host conference opponent WKU in a three-game series at the Tigue starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
