UL Lafayette Scores First Conference Win

Smith scored two of the Cajuns three goals and fellow freshman Liza Preseault made two saves in goal as UL Lafayette (4-5-3, 1-1-1) collected its first SBC win of the season. UALR's lone goal of the match came when Natalie Hanks knocked the ball into the Cajuns goal at 47:29 of the second half.
Smith set the single-season records for goals (8) and points (17). Her second goal of the match at the 34th minute broke the previous mark of seven set by Ashley Delahoussaye in the inaugural 2000 campaign. That goal also gave her 17 points on the season besting Delahoussaye's 16 in 2000. It marks the third time this season Smith has scored two goals in a match, also a school record.
Louisiana-Lafayette's other score came four minutes after UALR (5-9, 1-5 SBC) cut the lead to 2-1. Sophomore Jenny Brown tallied her first goal of the season from 10 yards out into an empty net. UALR goalie Marsha Stewart came out from the net to challenge Brown but was unsuccessful.
The Cajuns got on the board first with Smith's first goal of the day at 7:20. Junior Sara Vienberg picked up the first of her two assists on the day on that goal. Vienberg also had the helper on Smith's second goal.
The two teams were evenly matched. UL Lafayette outshot the Trojans 8-7 and led the shots on goal tally 4-3.
The win moves the Cajuns back into the middle of the pack in the SBC and was their first-ever in Little Rock.
Louisiana-Lafayette returns to Cajun Field this weekend for the final two home matches of the season. The Cajuns will challenge two of the Sun Belt's premier teams in North Texas and Denver. Friday UL Lafayette takes on NT at 7 p.m. while the Denver match is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m.
