PENSACOLA, Fla. – Sophomore Jake Wynan saw his run at the USTA Pensacola Futures come to an end on Sunday falling in the third round at the Roger Scott Tennis Center.

Wynan dropped a 6-2, 7-5 decision to 14th seeded Roberto Cid of the Dominican Republic. On the weekend, Wynan was a team-best 2-1 in singles competition.

"Jake has to keep working on his game and stay hungry to improve," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "He has a lot to work on to get better.  Jake needs to commit to putting the work in. Being a professional is a process. A long process. It's a commitment to a lifestyle. Jake is realizing that, and I feel is ready for the commitment. We need all of our guys to walk the walk and not just talk the talk if we want to be top 25 nationally this year."

The conclusion of the Pensacola Futures event marks the end of the 2013 fall season for the men's tennis squad. The team returns to action in the spring with dual match play.

"We performed well in doubles this fall," Jeffrey added. "No doubt we competed at a top 25 level. We have some work to do in singles, but we were a little more consistent in our results this fall. Especially at the futures events. We need to have a strong winter, engage ourselves and lead the athlete life so we can come back in the spring strong and ready to go. We look forward to getting things started January 3rd."
