Ragin’ Cajuns Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Season In Texas

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team is set to open the 2014 spring dual match season this weekend with a pair of matches in Texas against Incarnate Word and 12th ranked Texas A&M.
 
Louisiana opens the slate on Friday at 2 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas against Incarnate Word in the first ever meeting between the two schools. The Cajuns wrap up the weekend on Sunday with a noon match against the nationally ranked Aggies.
 
"This will be a great start to the season playing Incarnate Word and then 12th ranked Texas A&M on the road," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "Our guys have played top level competition all summer and fall, so we look forward to the matches this weekend."
 
The Cajuns return its entire lineup from a squad that posted a 15-12 record and reached the semifinals of the Sun Belt tournament.
 
"It will be interesting to see just where we are at this point in the season," Jeffrey mentioned. "We are only at the very beginning, but the higher you can start the season definitely helps your position going into the next quarter of the season. Our season is long and we have broken it up into four quarters. This first quarter our aim is to beat a top 25 ranked opponent, and with this opportunity I know the guys will be walking in eager to play.
 
"We are looking for our 4-5-6 guys in the lineup to really step up and take a leadership role.   Having those guys compete at a high level really helps the rest of the guys. Our doubles has been very impressive and we look to keep that momentum going. With the new changes in scoring for the next month it will be really important to start quick."
 
The Ragin' Cajuns continue its four-match road swing next weekend with contests at Prairie View A&M and Texas – Pan American.
