Louisiana Delivers Complete Sweep Over Nicholls at Cajun Courts

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team closed its homestand in dominant fashion on Thursday, March 26, sweeping the Nicholls Colonels, 7-0, at Cajun Courts.

The victory marked a second consecutive shutout for Louisiana (8-6), which opened the homestand last Friday with a 4-0 win over Alcorn, and kept the squad undefeated at home this spring. The Ragin' Cajuns are now 3-0 at Cajun Courts, having dropped only one point across the three contests.

Louisiana set the tone early on Thursday by capturing the doubles point with wins on all three courts.

The No. 1 pair of Mason Landreth and Leonard Tramolay opened the morning with a 6-0 victory, while David Simeonov and Nikola Kolyachev secured a 6-3 win on Court 2 to clinch the doubles point.

Gianluca Filoramo and Samuel Kyjaci completed the clean sweep of the doubles courts with their 6-1 decision on Court 3.

The Ragin' Cajuns carried that momentum into singles play, claiming all six matches over the Colonels (4-9) in straight sets.

Darius Balan was first off the court with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory over Mitchell Spence at No. 5 singles. Mason Landreth added a 6-0, 6-3 win over Felipe Spagnuolo at the top spot, then Samuel Kyjaci followed with a 6-1, 6-2 decision on Court 3 over Mitchell Armbruster to clinch the match victory for Louisiana.

David Simeonov (6-0, 6-4), Leonard Tramolay (6-3, 6-2) and Gianluca Filoramo (6-2, 6-3) rounded out the sweep of the contest for Louisiana.

Thursday's meeting was the first matchup between Louisiana and Nicholls since February 2023. The Ragin' Cajuns stretched their series win streak to five straight and won for the eighth time in the last nine meetings dating back to 2006.

Louisiana travels to Mobile, Alabama on Saturday, April 4 for its final road match of the regular season. Doubles action is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.

The Ragin' Cajuns then return home for the regular-season finale at Cajun Courts on Saturday, April 11 against Southern Miss before traveling to Rome, Georgia for the Sun Belt Conference Championship, scheduled for Thursday–Sunday, April 16-19.
