Cajuns dominate doubles and roll through singles to improve to 7-6
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team returned to Cajun Courts in dominant fashion on Friday, March 20, securing a 4-0 sweep over Alcorn to improve to 7-6 on the season.
Louisiana claimed the doubles point quickly, with the pairing of David Simeonov and Nikola Kolyachev earning a 6-1 victory on Court 2 followed by Mason Landreth and Leonard Tramolay with a 6-2 victory on Court 1 to seal the point.
The third doubles match was left unfinished with the Cajuns holding a 5-1 lead.
In singles play, Louisiana continued its momentum with three decisive straight-set wins to clinch the match.
Tramolay delivered a flawless performance on Court 2, defeating Matthew Holl 6-0, 6-0 to put the Cajuns ahead 2-0. Gianluca Filoramo followed with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory over Fabian Juarez at No. 6 singles, before Darius Balan secured the match-clinching point with a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Tomas Grime on Court 4.
Several other matches were in progress when play was halted, including Landreth, Samuel Kyjaci and Kolyachev all holding leads in their respective contests.
With the victory, the Ragin' Cajuns snapped a two-match losing skid and bounced back from a pair of setbacks to Incarnate Word and UTSA in San Antonio earlier in the week.
Friday's match opened a brief two-match homestand for Louisiana that wraps up on Thursday, March 26 vs. Nicholls.
