Cajuns' Offensive Barrage Tops Towson 11-1

The Cajuns' bats came alive Saturday afternoon as the University of Louisiana baseball team defeated Towson 11-1 at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

Eight of the nine starters in the lineup posted a hit for the Cajuns (3-3) led by Brian Bowman and Chase Campton who each had three hits on the day. Dylan Butler had a game-high three RBI on the afternoon.

Jordan Nicholson and Derek Howell were great defensively for UL as the pair combined to throw a three-hitter with Nicholson picking up his first win of the season. Nicholson went 6.0 innings in the win striking out four while not allowing a free pass, while Howell picked up his first save after throwing three scoreless innings.

The Cajuns were tested early as Daniel Nichols made an excellent leaping catch against the left field wall in the top of the first inning to keep the Tigers off of the board and end the inning.

UL grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI double down the left field line by Compton scoring Bowman from third.

Bowman increased the Cajuns' advantage to 3-0 in the bottom of the second as he singled in Chris Sinclair and Jace Conrad with two outs.

In the top of the third, Towson got on the board on a RBI single by Brandon Gonnella.

Dylan Butler gave Louisiana a four-run lead in the bottom half of the third as he crushed a two-run homer into the pine trees in left field to make the score 5-1.

The Cajuns put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth scoring three runs on three hits highlighted by a RBI double by Compton.

UL added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run by Sinclair and a two-run double by Michael Strentz to make the final 11-1.

The Cajuns will look to complete the sweep tomorrow as they host Towson in the final game of the series at 1 p.m.
