Box Score
Outstanding pitching performances by Austin Robichaux and Chris Griffitt guided the Ragin' Cajuns baseball team a 6-2 win and sweep of Towson on Sunday afternoon at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
Griffitt was tabbed with the win after limiting the Tigers (1-5) to just one run in 5.0 innings of work, while Robichaux had a quality start going 4.0 innings with one run earned and was able to pitch his way out of a couple jams.
Offensively for the Cajuns (4-3), Chase Compton extended his hit streak to five games after going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Brian Bowman also posted multi hits for the second straight contest with a 2-for-4 day, a walk and two stolen bases.
Towson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Brandon Gonnella drove in Brenden Butler on a ball hit to second.
In the bottom half of the first, the Cajuns notched the game at 1-all on a RBI single by Compton.
Catcher Chris Sinclair gave UL the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth as he came around to score from second base on a Towson error.
UL added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 advantage. Ryan Leonards scored the first run of the inning on a Chris Acker wild pitch. Later in the inning, Dylan Butler brought in Michael Strentz on a ball hit back to the pitcher.
Strentz drove in two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on his two out single through the left side to increase the Cajuns lead to 6-1.
The Tigers added a late run in the top of the eight on a RBI single by Ryne Willard to make the final 6-2.
The Cajuns return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. when they host Alcorn State in a non-conference game.
