LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team ended a two-game skid with a 9-5 midweek victory over in-state rival McNeese State on Tuesday night at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

The Cajuns (16-5, 4-2 SBC) extended their home winning streak to 10 games with the victory.

UL collected 17 hits on the night, the second most hits in one game this season.  Of the 17 hits on the night, the Cajuns collected seven extra base hits.  Jonathan Lucroy hit a homerun, while Kolin Hatfield and Scott Hawkins both added triples.  Four different Cajuns had doubles.

Five different Cajuns recorded multiple hits in the game.  Devery Van De Keere led all Cajuns batters, going 4-for-5 on the night with a double, a run scored and two RBI.

Matt Pilgreen earned the win for the Cajuns.  He improved to 3-0 on the season, as he tossed 2.2 innings in relief.  Pilgreen surrendered just one run while striking out two.

Andrew Laughter dominated on the mound in relief for the Cajuns.  He gave up just one hit in the game, while striking out four batters in just 2.0 innings of work.

McNeese State was the first team to scratch the scoreboard.  After Zorich retired the first five batters of the night, Taylor Faul singled to centerfield to give the Cowboys their first baserunner of the night.  MSU's Thomas Zabasky quickly made the score 2-0, as he homered over the right field wall.

The Cajuns cut into the lead in the bottom of the second inning.  Scott Hawkins drew a base on balls to lead off the inning.  He moved over to second base on a wild pitch.  A Justin Robichaux single plated the Hawkins cut the MSU lead to 2-1.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Cajuns took the lead.  Nolan Gisclair led off the inning with a single through the left side of the infield.  He advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Jefferies Tatford doubled to right field to plate the first run of the inning.  A groundout moved Tatford to third base.  A triple by Scott Hawkins gave the Cajuns their second run of the inning and left UL with a runner in scoring position with one out.  Devery Van De Keere lined the first pitch he saw through the left side of the infield to score Hawkins.  A ground rule double by William Long gave the Cajuns a pair of runners in scoring position.  Robichaux walked to load the bases.  Josh Logan singled to left field to plate Van De Keere from third base.  After three complete innings of play, the Cajuns led 5-2.

In the fourth inning, the Cowboys trimmed the Ragin' Cajuns lead.  With one out, McNeese State was able to get a double to centerfield.  The Cowboys benefited from a hit batter to give them a pair of runners with just one out.  Back-to-back singles by Taylor and Zabasky scored a pair of runners and cut the UL lead to just 5-4.

McNeese State tied the game in the top of the fifth inning.  The Cowboys used a double down the left field line and an infield single to get a pair of baserunners.  A balk moved the runners to second and third.  Pilgreen recorded the first out of the inning as he struck out the next MSU batter on four pitches.  A ground out recorded the second out of the inning, however, the out allowed a run to score and knot the score at 5-5.  A fly ball ended the inning and the Cowboy threat.

The run allowed by Pilgreen in the fifth inning was the first run allowed by the senior this season.  Pilgreen tossed 15.0 innings in relief before issuing his first run of the year.

The Cajuns regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Hawkins started the inning with a first pitch double to centerfield.  A single through the right side by Van De Keere moved Hawkins to third base.  Xavier Alexander laid down a bunt that got past the charging pitcher and first baseman.  Alexander was safe with an infield bunt single.  Hawkins scored on the play to give the Cajuns a 6-5 lead.

Alexander's hit in the bottom of the fifth inning extended his team-leading hitting streak to 19 games.  His hitting streak ties him for the sixth longest hitting streak in Ragin' Cajuns history.

The Cajuns added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Lucroy lifted a 3-1 pitch over the right centerfield wall to push the UL advantage to 7-5.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Cajuns extended their lead.  Kolin Hatfield led off the inning with a triple to centerfield.  A single by Tatford plated Hatfield.  Lucroy followed with a single of his own.  A double by Van De Keere scored Tatford and gave the Ragin' Cajuns the final 9-5 margin of victory.

The Ragin' Cajuns will square off against the Cowboys tomorrow as they head to Lake Charles for a midweek game.  First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Cowboy Diamond.
