LAKE CHARLES, La.-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team used 12 hits including a Jonathan Lucroy grand slam to power past McNeese State on Tuesday night at Cowboy Diamond.

The Cajuns (17-5) improved to 14-0 when they collect double-digit hits in a game.  UL also improved its record against in-state opponents to 5-1 on the season.

Four different Cajuns players collected multiple hits in the game, including Lucroy who was 2-for-4 with a grand slam.  Aside from the grand slam, Lucroy had an RBI single and a sacrifice fly for six RBI on the night.  It was the second time in 2007 that Lucroy has recorded six RBI in one game.

Jefferies Tatford was a perfect 2-for-2 on the night and reached base safely in all five plate appearances.  Tatford drew three walks on the evening.  He scored three runs and drove in a pair.

Scott Hawkins was 3-for-5 on the night?his 10th multi hit game of the season.

Justin Robichaux earned his second win of the season tossing 2.1 innings of relief.  He retired the first three batters he faced by strikeout.

The Cowboys threatened in the first inning.  After recording the first two outs of the inning, MSU used a single and a walk to get two baserunners.  A double steal advanced the runners into scoring position.  Wilborn appeared to have walked the next batter, but McNeese State batted out of order and therefore automatically out on the play.  The out concluded the inning and ended the Cowboy threat.

In the third inning, Matt Hicks reached base by means of a throwing error by the Cowboys.  Josh Logan attempted to lay down a sacrifice bunt, but the ball rolled in between three charging MSU defenders to allow Logan to reach base safely.  A sacrifice bunt by Devon Bourque moved the runners up and a walk by Jefferies Tatford loaded the bases for the Cajuns.  With the bases juiced and one out, Lucroy drove a 2-1 pitch over the centerfield wall for a grand slam.  After two and a half innings complete, the Cajuns had a 4-0 lead.

The homerun was Lucroy's sixth of the year and his second in as many nights against the Cowboys.

In the fourth inning, McNeese State cut into the Ragin' Cajuns lead.  With one out, Wilborn walked a batter on four straight pitches.  After the second out of the inning was recorded, the runner moved to third base on a single to right centerfield.  An RBI single plated the lead runner and left the score 4-1 after four complete innings.

The Cajuns increased their lead in the top of the fifth inning.  Logan led off the inning with a base on balls.  Bourque followed with a four-pitch walk.  Tatford doubled to right field to plate the first run of the inning and give the Cajuns a pair of runners in scoring position.  Lucroy followed with a sacrifice fly to plate the second run of the inning and move Tatford to third base.  Hawkins scored Tatford with an RBI single through the left side of the infield.

In the Cowboy's half of the fifth inning, McNeese State scored a pair of runs to trim the Ragin' Cajuns lead.  After retiring the first batter of the inning on one pitch, Wilborn surrendered a double down the left field line.  A fly ball to centerfield recorded the second out of the inning, but allowed the runner to advance to third base.  A hit batter gave the Cowboys runners on the corners.  A double to right field plated two runs and cut the Cajuns advantage to 7-3.  Justin Robichaux entered the game in relief of Wilborn and recorded the final out of the inning with a strikeout.

The Cajuns added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning.  With one out in the inning, Logan singled to right field to give UL a baserunner.  After stealing second base, the Cajuns used back-to-back RBI singles by Tatford and Lucroy to plate a pair or runners and increase the UL lead to 9-3.

The Cowboys plated a pair of runners in the bottom of the eighth to narrow the Cajuns' lead to 9-5, but were unable t do anything else despite loading the bases in the final inning of play.

In weekend action, the Cajuns will continue their conference season with a three-game series against Sun Belt newcomer Florida Atlantic.  The three-game series at the Tigue will mark the first time in school history the two teams will match-up against each other.
