Brasch joined by Amedee, Brown, Herrmann on team

EUNICE – Behind Newcomer of the Year Cody Brasch and Co-Coach of the Year Matt Deggs, Louisiana Baseball placed four student-athletes on the 2026 Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-Louisiana Baseball Team, the organization announced Saturday.

The team was selected through voting by the state's baseball athletic communicators and a statewide media panel.

Brasch, a first-team selection and the eighth player in program history to earn LSWA Newcomer of the Year honors, was joined by second-team selection Lee Amedee at first base. Freshman catcher Colt Brown and senior pitcher Andrew Herrmann earned honorable mention recognition.

A junior college transfer, Brasch emerged as one of the Sun Belt Conference's top pitchers after opening the season in the bullpen before moving into the Friday night starter role. He finished 6-3 with six saves and led the conference with a 2.77 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP while striking out 82 batters in 74.2 innings. Brasch also earned second-team All-Sun Belt and ABCA All-South Region honors.

Deggs, who shared state coaching honors with LSU Eunice's Jeff Willis, became the first UL head coach to earn LSWA Coach of the Year honors since Tony Robichaux in 2014 after guiding the Ragin' Cajuns to one of the nation's strongest finishes. Louisiana advanced to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game and the NCAA Starkville Regional final while becoming the only Division I program in the state to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The Cajuns also claimed series victories over nationally ranked Southern Miss and Coastal Carolina and had two stints where they were ranked in the national top 25.

Amedee, the recipient of the 2026 Tony Gwynn Community Service Award, batted .300 while leading Louisiana with 54 RBI, a .449 on-base percentage, four triples and 49 walks. The Gonzales, La., native was perfect defensively, handling all 517 chances without an error, including 471 at first base. Among Division I first basemen, he ranked second in defensive WAR (1.00), third in defensive runs saved (11.54) and 10th in WAR (3.64).

Brown, a Freshman All-American by two organizations, hit a team-best .314 with eight home runs and 53 RBI. The second-team All-Sun Belt and ABCA All-South Region selection led the Ragin' Cajuns in slugging percentage (.493), hits (72), doubles (15) and total bases (113) while starting 64 of Louisiana's 66 games behind the plate.

Herrmann, a second-team All-Sun Belt selection, compiled a 7-5 record with a 4.69 ERA while leading the team with 109.1 innings pitched and 116 strikeouts. He paced the Sun Belt in strikeouts and games started (18) and ranked among the nation's leaders with four complete games. The Kennesaw, Ga., native threw Louisiana's first complete-game, one-hit shutout in a decade in an 8-0 victory over UC San Diego on Feb. 28.
