Ellie Russell joined the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women’s soccer program in 2025 as an assistant coach.

Before her arrival at Louisiana, Russell spent the previous two seasons at the University of South Alabama, helping guide the Jaguars to sustained success in the Sun Belt Conference. In fall 2024, South Alabama posted a 10-6-3 record and clinched the Sun Belt West Division title. She also assisted in the development of Irene Campo, who earned Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year honors and was named a United Soccer Coaches All-American.

During her first season in Mobile in 2023, South Alabama compiled a 16-1-3 overall record and captured the Sun Belt championship with an 8-0-2 conference mark. The Jaguars went 15-0-3 in the regular season, marking the first unbeaten campaign in program history, and outscored opponents 50-7. The team swept the league’s major awards, including Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Coach of the Year.

A former student-athlete, Russell was a four-year captain at Middle Georgia State, leading the program to its first national tournament appearance. She concluded her collegiate career as a member of the SSAC All-Conference First Team as a senior.

A native of Salisbury, England, Russell earned a master’s degree in exercise science from South Alabama in 2025. She graduated summa cum laude from Middle Georgia State in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management.
