Rubber game of three-games series set for Sunday at noon CT

BOONE, N.C. – Jake Mummau's two-out, two-run double broke a 2-2 contest to cap a three-run sixth inning, and App State added three more runs in the eighth to claim a 7-2 Sun Belt Conference win over Louisiana on Saturday at Smith Stadium.

Gage Peterson (8-0) allowed six hits and struck out six batters in 7.0 innings as App State (29-19, 16-10 SBC) evened its series with Louisiana (31-20, 13-13 SBC).

The final game of the three-game series is scheduled for Sunday at noon CT. The game will be available on ESPN+, with fans able to listen locally on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network.

Louisiana broke open a scoreless contest in the fourth inning when Colt Brown launched his fifth homer of the season – a 441-foot shot to left center. Brown, who finished 2-for-4, added a sixth-inning double and scored two batters later on Drew Markle's sacrifice fly to give the Ragin' Cajuns a 2-1 lead.

App State tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth on Riley Luft's RBI single that scored Steven Smith, who led off the inning with a triple. The Mountaineers tied the game in the sixth as Charlie Evans led off with a single, stole second and scored on Luft's RBI single.

The Mountaineers took a 5-2 lead in the eighth as Ethan Puig led off with a single and scored on Kameron Miller's RBI double to right-center field. Colton Denton capped the scoring for App with a two-out, two-run RBI single off reliever Garret Carter.

Andrew Herrmann (6-3) took the loss for Louisiana after scattering 10 hits and allowing six runs in 7.1 innings. Blaze Rodriguez added two hits for Louisiana while Lee Amedee was 1-for-3 with a walk.
