Louisiana continues homestand on Wednesday against Nicholls
Colt Brown and Steven Spalitta each walked in the sixth inning, and Donovan LaSalle doubled to left field to score Brown. Drew Markle followed with a single through the right side to score Spalitta and tie the game, with LaSalle advancing to third. Mark Collins then singled up the middle to give the Cajuns the lead, and Noah Lewis added a two-run single to restore a three-run advantage.
Brown led off the seventh inning with his third home run of the season, a line drive over the left-field wall. After walks to Blaze Rodriguez and LaSalle, Markle delivered another RBI single. Collins added an RBI hit, and, following a walk to Lewis, pinch-hitter Lee Amedee cleared the bases with a three-run double just inside the first-base bag. Owen Galt then doubled to score pinch-runner Maddox Mandino with the game-ending run.
Parker Smith made his first start of the season for Louisiana (26-18) and tossed four scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, walked two and struck out six.
JR Tollett worked a scoreless fifth inning, but Southern (21-21) rallied in the sixth. Tollett recorded two outs around a walk before Kennedy Drexler's RBI single put the Jaguars on the board.
After a Louisiana error, Tollett walked Edward Gregory Jr. to load the bases. Sawyer Pruitt (4-3) entered in relief and walked Ryan Hunter to force in a run. Kameron Byrd followed with a two-run single, and pinch-hitter Luis Ayala doubled to bring home the fifth run of the inning. Tollett was charged with four runs, three of them unearned.
Louisiana opened the scoring in the first inning on Lewis' first collegiate home run. The freshman added a sacrifice fly in the third to score Markle. Spalitta's RBI single in the fourth plated Brown and gave the Cajuns a 3-0 lead before Southern's rally.
Collins, Lewis and Markle each recorded two hits to lead Louisiana, while Lewis drove in four runs. Amadee added three RBI, and Markle and Collins each drove in two.
Byrd led all players, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles while driving in two runs, as Southern totaled seven hits. Genesis Prosper (1-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on three hits in the sixth inning.
Louisiana continues its five-game week on Wednesday when it hosts Nicholls at 6 p.m.
