Cajuns open four-game homestand beginning Tuesday against SLU
Texas State (15-8, 3-3 SBC) scored in five of its six offensive innings and hit eight home runs to secure its first SBC sweep over Louisiana (16-8, 2-4 SBC) since 2022.
The Bobcats jumped in front in the second inning when Ethan Farris opened the frame with a solo home run before Jackson Cotton followed later in the inning with a two-run blast to give Texas State a 3-0 lead.
Texas State broke the game open in the third inning, plating five runs on three consecutive home runs. Farris delivered a three-run homer, Clayton Namken followed with a solo shot and Chase Mora added another long ball to extend the Bobcats' lead to 8-0.
The Bobcats continued their power surge in the fourth when Dawson Park connected on a two-run homer after Manny Salas drove in a run with a double, pushing the advantage to 11-1.
Louisiana got on the board in the fourth inning when Drew Markle produced an RBI fielder's choice. The Ragin' Cajuns added two runs in the fifth as Josh Lim delivered an RBI single and Colt Brown followed with an RBI single to trim the deficit to 11-3.
Texas State answered in the fifth when Salas launched a three-run home run and Park followed with another solo blast to stretch the lead to 15-3.
Louisiana scored three runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Steven Spalitta's two-run pinch-hit home run and an RBI single by Jayce LaCava – his first hit in a Ragin' Cajuns uniform.
Salas paced Texas State offensively with four hits and four RBI, while Park and Farris each drove in four runs.
Jesus Tovar (5-1) earned the victory after tossing 5.0 innings with three strikeouts and five hits allowed. JR Tollett (4-1) took the loss for Louisiana after allowing 11 runs on 11 hits in 3.0 innings.
Louisiana finished with eight hits in the contest, with Brown collecting two hits and an RBI. Noah Lewis added a double and scored a run for Louisiana, while Hayden Pearson pitched a scoreless inning in relief and Cowan Alfonso recorded two strikeouts in 0.2 innings of work.
The Ragin' Cajuns return to action on Tuesday (March 24) when they open a four-game homestand against in-state opponent Southeastern Louisiana before hosting ULM in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series from March 27-29 at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
