Ragin’ Cajuns welcome South Alabama for the next outing on current homestand
LAFAYETTE – The current homestand for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team carries on with a matchup vs. South Alabama on Saturday, January 3 at the Cajundome. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
The contest is the second half of a doubleheader with the Louisiana men's squad which begins the day meeting Southern Miss at Noon.
The Ragin' Cajuns (1-12, 0-3 SBC) and Jaguars (7-6, 0-3 SBC) both seek their first conference win of the season. Live coverage is available on ESPN+ and The GOAT 103.3 FM and 1420 AM.
Admission to Saturday's contest – and all UL Women's Basketball games throughout the entire season – is free and open to the public. The Cajundome's clear bag policy and cashless concessions will be implemented.
The USA contest marks the third outing on UL's current five-game homestand which concludes next week with matchups against ULM (January 8) and Texas State (January 10).
UL stands 1-1 on the homestand, topping Dillard (W, 97-56) on Monday to begin the stretch and then falling to Troy (L, 54-80) in the SBC home opener on Thursday.
Freshman Amijah Price has been the headliner in the homestand, leading the Ragin' Cajuns in scoring both games. She followed up a season-high, 30-point effort vs. Dillard with a team-leading 15 points vs. Troy.
Louisiana has won seven of the last eight meetings with South Alabama. The Ragin' Cajuns seek to even the all-time mark against the Jaguars in their hometown, with USA holding a slim 15-14 edge entering Saturday.
The Sun Belt's top two scoring freshmen reside in Lafayette with Price (12.5) and fellow freshman Imani Daniel (11.7) holding the distinction. Price has provided the Ragin' Cajuns a boost off the bench in 12 of her 13 contests played while Daniel is the leader in both offensive and defensive rebounds.
South Alabama has lost five of its last six games after starting off 6-1 in the month of November. The Jaguars rank second in the SBC and Top 35 nationally in three-point field goal percentage (36.4) with Daniela Gonzalez leading individually at 52.1 percent (25-of-48) and Amyah Sutton leading in total triples made (31).
