Potgieter Posts Third Top-5 Finish To Lead Louisiana at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

Ragin' Cajuns finish third in 14-team field; will compete at SMU beginning Sunday
HOUSTON – Malan Potgieter recorded his third top-five finish of the season, leading the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team to a third-place showing at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday at Westwood Golf Club.
Louisiana posted rounds of 285-289-292 to finish at 866 (+2), placing behind team champion Rice (839, -25) and Houston (845, -19) in the 14-team field.
Potgieter tied for fourth overall at 6-under 210 after carding rounds of 69-68-73. Carter Schmitt earned a top-15 finish for Louisiana, tying for 13th at 2-under 214, highlighted by a 4-under 68 in the second round.
Freshman Ben Blanco tied for 23rd at 219 (+3), while freshman James Holtsclaw finished tied for 41st at 223 (+7). Jay Brooks rounded out the Louisiana lineup in a tie for 62nd at 229 (+13). Competing as an individual, freshman Drew Sliman tied for 36th at 222 (+6).
Houston's Grant Doggett earned medalist honors at 15-under 201.
Louisiana will head back to the Lone Star State this weekend for its fourth event of the fall when it opens play on Sunday at SMU's Trinity Forest Invitational. The three-day event will conclude on Tuesday.
