Potgieter fires 2-under-par 70 to lead Ragin' Cajuns
DALLAS – Malan Potgieter's under-par round paced the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday, but the team finished 14th after the opening day of the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
Potgieter fired a 2-under-par 70 to sit in a tie for 11th individually, just six shots off the lead held by Furman's Clark Akers, who carded an 8-under 64.
Louisiana's next three scorers – Carter Schmitt, James Holtsclaw and Ben Blanco – each posted rounds of 76 to finish 4-over and tied for 63rd. Drew Sliman, who carded a hole-in-one on the par-3, 241-yard No. 11, added a 78 for the Ragin' Cajuns.
The Ragin' Cajuns closed the first round at 298 (+10), placing them 14th in the 16-team field. USC and Baylor shared the team lead at 9-under 279, followed by South Alabama at 281 (-7), with Houston (282), Furman (282) and Rice (282) one stroke back.
The tournament continues Monday beginning at 9 a.m., with the second round of play on the par-72, 7,617-yard course. The tournament Live results are available at Scoreboard.Clippd.com.
