Louisiana Scores Twice in Final Minutes to Earn Road Win

The Ragin’ Cajuns have now posted back-to-back shutout victories
EDINBURG, Texas - A pair of late goals and some stingy defense led the Louisiana soccer team to a 2-0 victory over UTRGV on Thursday. It was the team's first road win of the season and the second straight shutout win.
The Ragin' Cajuns came out in the first half looking to continue their hot offensive start. Salma Elhaimer and Maiya Clark registered shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes, but the Cajuns couldn't connect offensively. Neither side had much going offensively in the opening half as the game went through the opening 45 minutes scoreless.
Louisiana continued to push the pace in the second half but couldn't cash in with a goal. The home side got off a pair of shots on goal, but Natalie Mayes kept the sheet clean with a pair of stops. Less than a minute after the second of those shots, Chloe Mueller's long pass beat the defense, and Sisley Stephens put it by the charging goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.
The offense didn't let up from there. Adeline Nemeth and Carson Glenn recorded shots on goal before Glenn put things out of reach with a brilliant run up the left side by a defender before firing into the back of the net with her right foot.
It was the first goal of the season for Stephens and the sixth of her career, while for Glenn it was number two. Mayes posted the 10th shutout of her career, becoming the fourth player in school history to reach that milestone.
Louisiana returns home for its final non-conference home contest when it hosts Rice at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
