Cajuns Compete in Last Chance Meet in Mobile

Louisiana now heads to the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Florida
MOBILE, Ala. - Trying for one more chance to qualify for the NCAA East Regional events, the Louisiana track and field team competed on Sunday at the Last Chance Meet hosted by South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.
The Ragin' Cajuns sent a small contingent of athletes looking to lock in a spot for the regionals. The top 48 individuals in each event qualify for the regional, while the top 24 relay teams get the chance to compete in Jacksonville, Florida.
Reem Tammam competed in the long and triple jumps. In the long jump, she posted a best of 18-7/5.66m, and in the triple jump, she was 39-6.75/12.06m. She finishes the regular season 55th in the triple jump and 58th in the long jump and will wait to see if her name is called later this week when the field is announced.
In the women's 200m, Chaniqua Tonge ran a 24.38 and Quincy Simon clocked in at 24.70. Alexandra Johnson ran the 800m with a time of 2:21.42. The women also ran the 4x100m relay with Jaala Thymes, Amairi Ashford, Simon, and Tonge finishing with a time of 46.52.
Rounding out the women were Marin Barras and Ellie Manuel in the javelin. Barras finished with a throw of 136-4/41.56, and Manuel finished at 129-0/39.32. Barras is 51st in the region, and Manuel ends the regular season 56th.
Louisiana just competed in two events on the men's side. Caemon Scott ran the 400m, clocking in with a time of 50.00. William Howard threw in the javelin with a best throw of 193-1/58.87. Howard will wait to see if he qualifies for the regional after finishing in 52nd place.
The NCAA East Regional field will be announced later this week. The top 48 individuals and top 24 relay teams will receive an invitation to compete. Should an individual decline their spot, it gets passed down to the next highest qualifier and so on until the field is filled. The regional will take place in Jacksonville, Florida from May 28-31.
