It was the first time since 1996-97 that the men and women recorded back-to-back top 3 finishes
HARRISONBURG, Virginia - The Louisiana track and field team won six events on the final day of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships in Harrisonburg, Virginia. That powered the women to a second-place finish with 108 points while the men were third with 114 points.
It was the second-straight year both teams finished in that spot, the first back-to-back top-three finishes for the men and women since 1996-97. It was the first time both teams scored over 100 points since 1997, and Louisiana won eight events over three days, its most since 2012.
The Ragin' Cajuns came out firing. Kimola Hines won the discus with ease, winning with a throw of 161-7/49.26, clearing the rest of the field by 7.5 feet. Aniya Hill also scored with a throw of 147-8/45.02 to place eighth.
Jeremy Nelson won the triple jump at 52-5.25/15.98 on his final attempt. The junior earned the sweep of the indoor and outdoor titles for the second time in three seasons as a Cajun.
Lawson Jacobs and Joe Patterson also defended their indoor titles. Patterson kicked it into high gear out of the final turn to win the 800m in 1:50.46. Patterson nearly ended up with two titles but came up just short in the 1500m, finishing second at 3:50.85.
The Cajun men swept the relays. They began the day with their second 4x100m relay title in a row with Chris Gravois, Mark Daley, Caemon Scott, and Lawson Jacobs crossing the finish line in 39.55, just 0.1 off last season's meet record. They closed the day with gold in the 4x400m with Camren Hardy, Jonathan Gamarra, Hunter Ullrich, and Scott taking it home in 3:08.65.
