Cajuns Continue Strong Spring at Pelican Relays

Louisiana had three new entries into the school record book
BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana track and field team continued to have a strong outdoor season at the Pelican Relays hosted by Southern in Baton Rouge. The Cajuns had three new entries into the record book and won three events over the weekend.
Kimola Hines had a big weekend, winning the hammer (177-4/54.05m) and recording the third-best discus throw in school history at 172-2/52.49m. She wasn't the only thrower who moved up the record books. Laila Guy jumped to third in the shot put with a throw of 46-8.75/14.24m.
Quincy Simon's personal-best 55.47 in the 400m put that time ninth in school history. Louisiana also got wins over the weekend from Jasmine Sakaguchi in the pole vault (11-5.75/3.50m) and Nelvin Appiah in the decathlon at the Doc Anderson Invitational (6695). Just behind Appiah was Federico Bovo at 6404.
Chaniqua Tonge got the weekend going in the 200m, finishing third at 23.98. Two Cajuns earned a spot on the podium in the 800m with Victoria Datta (2:20.98) and London Parker (2:22.17) placing second and third. The women also had a strong performance in the 4x100m relay, finishing second with the team of Jaala Thymes, Amairi Ashford, Jakyra Edwards, and Tonge (45.64).
In field events, Oliver Jack finished third in the hammer at 173-5/52.86m. Praiyer Jones was second in the discus with a personal best of 52-6.75/46.78m. Kaleb Goodly was second in the high jump, clearing 6-9.5/2.07m. Marin Barras was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 43-5.25/13.24m. In the long jump, Courtney Wiltz was third at 18-9.75/5.73m, a season best. In the discus, Aniya Hill was third at a personal best 147-2/44.86m.
The Cajuns are back in action next weekend at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa.
