Louisiana, Texas State meet up in three-game SBC series
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team returns to Sun Belt Conference play beginning on Friday when it hosts Texas State in a three-game series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
First pitch for Friday's opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. The series will resume on Saturday at 2 p.m. before concluding on Sunday at 1. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+ with fans able to listen in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
Louisiana (15-16, 6-3 SBC), currently one game behind Southern Miss in the SBC standings, continues a nine-game homestand when it entertains Texas State (13-15, 4-5 SBC), a 5-3 winner at No. 5-ranked Texas on Tuesday. The Ragin' Cajuns earned a split in their midweek contests, defeating Northwestern State on Tuesday before falling to Louisiana Tech on Wednesday.
Conor Higgs (.356-10-21), one of three SBC players to lead the league in home runs, leads Louisiana at the plate with Owen Galt (.323-0-8), Caleb Stelly (.289-5-18), Drew Markle (.276-2-9), Brooks Wright (.273-0-18), Jose Torres (.255-1-18) and Lee Amedee (.253-1-6) following.
Sophomore left-hander Chase Morgan (2-1, 2.52 ERA) will start on the mound in Friday's opener for Louisiana with southpaw Andrew Herrmann (2-2, 5.29 ERA) scheduled for Saturday. Right-hander JR Tollett (3-2, 3.31 ERA), the reigning SBC and NCBWA Pitcher of the Week, will start in Sunday's finale.
Ian Collier (.339-3-14), Ryne Farber (.305-1-12) and Chase Mora (.275-3-18) are the top hitters for Texas State. The Bobcats will send left-handers Alex Valentin (4-1, 3.79 ERA) and Jesus Tovar (0-2, 4.71 ERA) the mound in the opening two games before right-hander Jackson Teer (1-5, 6.92 ERA) takes the mound on Sunday.
